ChildFund International is a child development organization. It was founded in 1938 by J. Calvitt Clarke. J. Calvitt Clarke was a Presbyterian minister who started the organization to aid Chinese children who were displaced by the Second Sino-Japanese War. From 1938-1951, the name of the organization was named China’s Children Fund. From 1951-2009, the organization was named the Christian Children’s Fund. In 2009, the name was changed to ChildFund International. It is also sometimes referred to as ChildFund Alliance. ChildFund International helps children in over 30 countries. Some areas served to include the United States, South America, Africa, and Asia. The headquarters are located in Richmond, VA.

ChildFund International provides vocational training, literacy training, food distribution, educational programs, early childhood development, health programs, immunization programs, nutritional programs, water and sanitation development, and emergency relief in man-made and natural disasters. Funds are typically received by contributors who sponsor a child (on a monthly basis), grants, and other donations.

In order to sponsor a child on a monthly basis, you can sign up on the website. You will first have to choose a child. You can search for children in various countries, view the child’s profile, and make a selection. You are able to search by country, age, gender, and birthday. The child’s profile will show their birthday, country, and will include detailed information about the child’s interests. Donations start at $36 per month. Your sponsored child will reach out to you via letters and pictures. This will allow you to build an everlasting relationship with your sponsored child. Your donation will go to the local organization in the child’s area to directly help the child that you sponsor.
